Behind Ozya
Behind Ozya
Ozya Key Contributors:
Mary Anne Moorman (Auntmama)
Mary Anne Moorman is an international consultant, long time community activist, former theatre director, and union organizer and KBCS.FM storyteller.
She is a co-founder of Ozya which may be the most challenging assignment of all. While consulting to the musical recording and education team at One Family Inc, she was asked to write a grant for the Massive Monkees and Big World Breaks. One thing led to another and suddenly Ozya emerged as a not for profit organization that uses arts and education as a prevention to violence and a bridge to the future.
Amber Flame
Amber Flame is a Seattle-based performance poet, vocalist, activist and educator whose source for inspiration finds its roots in the blues. Whether exploring rhythmic and harmonic structures as a framework for spoken word or blending voice in song, she tests the boundaries between genre and medium.
She is the big brain behind A Flame Production, a visionary collective project, the band leader and composer for neo-soul fusion band, Last of the RedHot Mamas, as well as a member of Sankofa, an African-American a cappella Women's Choir. She expresses herself on stages as varied as the Seattle Slam and Bent Writing Institute to PONCHO Theater, Broadway Performance Hall and the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center, and teaches music and poetry to kids in her spare time.
Amber Flame is debuting her one-woman performance and identity workshop, SkinStories & Other Half-Truths: A Reclamation Project workshop in Seattle through support from the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, and will be marketing the show nationally to colleges and universities. She also teaches music and poetry workshops to students of all ages and is at work on her second album through Jack Straw's Artist Support Program. ..picture soon.
Allen Schwartz
Allen is a native of New York, Chicago, Seattle, and everywhere in between. He is an autoworker, shipbuilder, diesel locomotive mechanic, teacher, writer, musician, and visual artist and is always looking for a way to use his gifts to help people find their voice. Most crimes occur in the dark. Most crimes occur in a world of silence and ignorance. Allen believes that of all the goals and agendas open to rich and poor alike, the most pressing, the most relevant, the most rewarding goal is to break the silence, bring the light, and dispel the ignorance. The powerful combination of LIFE and ART is one of the most effective ways to do that.
